Beta V1.0
Years in the making, this is the first new version of TowerClimb since the alpha to see a public release. I hope you enjoy it! Beta V1.0 has many new features, is much more polished, and is more fun!

Love the game! You should link the site to your game trailer

Love it so far. Perhaps I am more than just a little dense and am missing something obvious, but is there a way to go full screen or increase the window size?

hey, Is there an email address where we can send bug reports? On the first level I carried an unknown item (a square with a U-shaped yellow bit at the bottom) to a "path of <can't remember>" shortcut exit (grey doors), and it crashed -- prompted me to press X as usual then crashed when I did. Sorry if this report isn't that helpful...
Davioware said:
You can send bug reports to davioware@davioware.com for now. After it crashed, were you able to load your game? (there's a crash save system so your progress gets saved if it crashes)

Awesome!!! I really love this game. The animation, the gameplay, and the hardcorness HNNGG!!!!! My highscore is 1813 feet right now.

Hey, loving the game all over again, BUT there is one small problem: it could use a mute option. I love to play games while listening to podcasts (especially procedurally generated ones like this), but it needs some sort of mute option. Otherwise enjoying it greatly :)

I was a bit turned off by the whole online-activation thingie. Is that going into the final release? If so you should put up a note on the site.
Davioware said:
@Greyface It may be in the final release. I don't think entering a cd-key once is that big of a deal.
Greyface said:
Entering the key isn't the problem, but apparently it checks the validity with a server? (Correct me if I'm wrong..) First of all my primary game system has no connection to the net.. Secondly, I love the game and it has a real classic-potential, something I might come back to years from now (as I have often done). That's why I hate these online-verification schemes. Would you consider coding the check into the local application? If you're really worried about piracy, the online-check should be as easy to crack as a hardcoded one, if not even easier (replay-attacks etc.)
Quazi said:
Only Initial activation requires the server.
Greyface said:
I wish it would solve the problem, but the problem lies in initial connectivity not being available at all.

I've lost countless hours to your game- It's charming on so many levels and I have to say that the work thats been put into the game between the alpha and beta version is very apparent (althoug I've only seen video of the alpha). Honestly you took a concept that seems simple enough and perfected it, do not change a thing about game mechanics please not a thing to complain about it! Considering I've played so many hours of this thing I figure I might actually be helpful with my experience and let you know if I see any bugs... minus those damed worms and f***king fly things that are just waiting to "uncomfortably tear my limbs to pieces".
Ryan said:
Wow, this game has really come a LONG way from the alpha version. I had never imagined that the game would get so polished. Furthermore, I love the direction that you've taken with it in that it's not a perpetual race against the clock. Keep up the great work!
Slumberjack said:
Biggest bug I've noticed so far- in the transitions between levels where it asks you to press x to continue, it still lets you use your items even though you're in level limbo. I lost my teleport potion accidently pressing the button in between levels. not a big problem, just definitely something to look into
ahconcertmaster said:
This is similar to what Slumberjack said. When you die, your character can still move around for a bit and use items. I actually died twice. I got eaten by a rat but since I could still move around I ended up falling into some lava so the "Eaten by a rat" image appeared but was quickly replaced by the "fell in to lava" picture. Game is amazing though, and I've been waiting for this for a long time. I would love controller support so I could plug in my 360 controller.
Greif said:
I really love your game. Everything is so perfect. I´m always discovering new things. Like that dumb wizard who made me fall off a cliff in the ice area!
sleaze said:
@ahconcertmaster: Just use JoyToKey. Actual controller support would be cool to, but isn't really necessary. I've been playing with a PS3 controller and it's been great. I had to make up a bit of a weird layout for buying potions, but it works, and plays beautifully otherwise.
Slumberjack said:
2 bugs I've noticed- for some reason you can't throw the red berry at the beetles in their wriggling hatchling state, it just goes right through them. I found this out because, I mean, let's be honest who wants to let those things become big beetles anyway. 2nd bug- I noticed that you can sort of accidentally start floating up on two of those plant balloon things at once: in many instances I led one into another one and took both up at the same time. however, if you end up going on just one and the other drifts away, it goes through the tower walls and into the sky. the same goes for if you repeatedly jump on the plant balloons in their starting floor state: they will slowly descend "into" the floor as you continually jump on them. still, freaking amazing game.
Davioware said:
I've fixed both of these bugs in the upcoming patch which will be released soon. The larva are invulnerable until they hatch, fyi.
20PercentRainbow said:
How about a site where everyone can post there deathpics? :D would be nice. Oh and amazing game, thanks for making this.
Someotherguy said:
Put them on the top of the boxes.
Laurent said:
Nice beta. The game is quite hard for a beginner. Except when you get the flying plant ballon thing. A small thing I found a bit annoying. The Game Over Screen don't seem to be skippable. Since the game is Hard is a bit annoying.
Quazi said:
In the next patch the game-over screen will be skippable.
Hevion said:
I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME. im addicted to it and i cant stop playing. the bug where you can still move a little after death and use item in the press x to continue screen is a really bad one but i didnt find any other bad ones for now. the game over screen is kindof annoying and imo kindof useless since there is the death screen just before it. cant wait for patches and updates. btw if i add names into the names file will the game load them randomly?? thank you
Slumberjack said:
my new record is 2411 feet lol DAMN THAT WIZARD, he might as well kill me right after he takes all my sh**.

Great game, Just wondering, since my computer is quite old, will it run this game? The alpha version ran fine but I'm wondering if you've added anything since then that will make the game run slow on my computer.. thanks
davioware said:
If you ran the alpha fine this should run well too. However, it does use the gpu a bit more than the alpha. What are your specs?
ahconcertmaster said:
So I tried JoyToKey but it didn't work too well. It would release shift if i changed directions for some reason. I've adapted to using a keyboard. The "Path of Exile" shortcuts seems a little too difficult. "Fatal Flight" is fine (though it once generated a horizontal line of spinning blades I couldn't get around") but the games path and the ghost path seem too difficult for only 3 floors of shortcut. For the games path, the beetle and the spikes (especially the spikes) make this too difficult. Climbing alone is too slow to collect all the coins in time, but when the spikes appear jumping from platform to platform is almost certain death. For the ghost path, the wizard makes this too difficult. I have had levels generated where you absolutely needed your items to progress upwards, but when the wizard appears a few seconds in a takes all your items, you will get stuck and impossible to progress.
Quazi said:
Yes, well that's the point of the path of exiles, there are ways to make the paths easier as-well once you figure them out. They're definitely not supposed to be an easy 'warpzone', and are meant to use up items equivalent to what you'd use in 3 floors worth of progress. if you don't die however, they do offer the advantage of having many more item chests than normal, and skipping those 3 floors. when you've gotten better at the nuances of the platforming, you'll see getting the mini-game is the best-case scenario, it's easy enough to win every-time.

Been playing the Beta a lot the past few days. I have a couple suggestions. 1) Is there a pause button? If so, I haven't found it. Would be really nice to have. 2) Full screen mode and/or some alternate windowed resolutions would also be great to have. 3) Less important, but would it be possible to have the mouse cursor not shown in the death pics?
Zach said:
Whoops. Just after I posted that I figured out about the function keys. 1/3 down.
Slumberjack said:
I realized that I don't even use the mouse cursor other than when on the menu screen.. when I'm in game i just use the keys it assigns to buying and choosing potions. maybe there should be a shortcut key that turns off the cursor or something since i'm not using it about 90 percent of the time
Quazi said:
Yea, that was unintentionally left in the release build, it'll be gone next patch
Hevion said:
so i reached the end of the beta! AMAZING GAME will the beta be longer? will something happen after the top? and whats with the guy spewing gas out of his eyes in the floor before last? i cant believe i beat it. its amazing great job!!
Davioware said:
Nice job reaching the end! The full game is approximately twice as long as this; There is another chapter which is not in the beta after the point you reached. The beta ends right before chapter 2 begins :).
Hevion said:
Great! i cant wait for it to be released! one question though. during the fight with the *boss* i dont want to spoil anything for anyone. but i picked up an item called zero and since then i have been finding it growing on plants and everytime i store it it says zero stored but its not in my inventory and noting happens. what is that? it looks like a blue ball. and just some feedback i though the ascent part was a little too easy
ahconcertmaster said:
I have also encountered this "zero" item. Rest assured I am far from the end. I have only encountered it on the first three floors of the tower so far. It seems to appear in place of berries on rare occasions and looks like a blue oval with a light blue "0" on it. When i pick it up and store it the game says "o stored" and it doesn't appear in my inventory and nothing happens.
Davioware said:
This is a bug and it's fixed in the next patch. Thanks for the reports guys.
SixPairsOfFeet said:
Hey, this game is great. Would you consider - for the final game - the possibility to enter a level generator seed, so I could compete with my friends on the very same tower and more fairly compare reiched height? It would also be great if the seed would be displayed on death and maybe saved to the deathlist, too. Also, could females be allowed to climb the tower, too? Thanks!
pete said:
I support the female thing. would be cool. Just make the hair longer and give em girlie names. Also, when I'm charged I sometimes use the boost jumping from the ground. Is this something I'm messing up that is intentional or is it a bug (I'm pretty sure I'm not double tapping and it's happened several time).
Rich Wilson said:
This site needs an RSS feed. It's the only way I can keep up with the piles of cool indie games out there, and I don't want to lose track of this one!
JermEx said:
Rich Wilsom: Just buy it , 5$ for this game is dirt cheap. And I'm talking quality black earth, the kind dreams grow out of.
Quibble said:
Paid full price for this as the game is definitely worth every penny. Absolutely gorgeous. The indie / retro scene is just getting better and better but every so often a real gem comes along... and TowerClimb is no exception. Thank you Davioware. Thank you.
